Two hectares, one family, fifteen years of mornings

Mai Moyo has farmed the same two hectares in Rifle Range, Chegutu since 2009. Tomatoes, onions, covo, tsunga - the everyday vegetables that fill a Zimbabwean pot most nights of the week.

"The soil here knows me and I know it," she says. "Some seasons are hard, but the land always gives something back if you look after it properly."

Every morning before six, she is out checking what is ready to pick. By the time Chitemere Fresh collects the harvest at the hub, it has been in the ground only hours earlier - which is the whole idea behind selling this way instead of waiting for a middleman at the market.
